A lack of understanding of the benefits of temper conversion is potentially costing aluminium stockists money - according to aluminium heat treatment experts Alloy Heat Treatment (AHT).

Through temper conversion, it is possible to move stock without having to go back to the mill to purchase further quantities. For example, if an aluminium stockist has sheet, bar or plate in stock in T6 condition, but their customer requires it in T4, Alloy Heat Treatment are able to convert the temper to the required variation. The same goes for changing the temper from “O” condition or T4 or T5.

AHT Director Ian Perks comments: “from experience of visiting customers it is quite often the case regarding temper conversion that there is a general lack of understanding of the application and also the benefits. Over the past few years I have personally visited companies and outlined the process, but often the information is not passed on to the individual that would be most interested. We are hoping to educate Midlands industry that this opportunity is available and that it could save people a lot of money on replacing stock”.
